Georgia’s Burning!

The Alchemy 2012 Burn Report

Alchemy, the Georgia Regional Burn, has just released their 2012 Burn Report. Tolstoy it ain’t, but to anyone interested in the logistics that go into a good burn, it’s a fascinating read. Those of you planning large-scale art projects will also find some solid grist for your mills therein.

I for one am impressed. Alchemy 2012 came in nearly $7,000 under budget, and generated revenue of $49,727.33 for Alchemy LLC, the co-op that runs the event. The degree of willing transparency demonstrated by their sometimes very candid comments in their Burn Report stand as an inspiration to all of us to take responsibility for our shortcomings. For instance:

“We did not have enough Rangers to work perimeter. The back half was only watched by two members of APW and two Rangers.”

“During fueling of the Effigy someone with a lit cigarette was able to enter the Perimeter.”

“Paper lanterns were being set up by the crowd- there were blowing right at the effigy while it was fueled.”

“We had our first runner. He did not get very far in and was grabbed by a Ranger. He turned out to be a very intoxicated minor who snuck into the event. I rode with Officer Denny to return the kid to his home and we spoke to his father about what happened.”

You can’t fix things without acknowledging that they’re broken first, and our brothers and sisters in Georgia seem to understand that well.

The Alchemy 2012 Burn Report is also well-stocked with positives; Section III, Innovations and Improvements for 2012, is particularly instructive, and again, the candid nature and expansiveness of the comments are not only valuable for other event planners and project leads, they show a commitment to open honesty and constant improvement that we can all take a lesson from.

  1. Most bikes can take a light spray without too much drama, but it is not recommended
to give them a drenching. What if I could make it do
ALL the work if I wanted. The frame has
the typical dual triangle design and has an air shock system in the front
fork. 4 kilowatt-hours, 113 miles city 58 miles highway range, up

cost a lot, but that is the place your improper.
That is one of several scenarios the Velo – Mini
    bicycle performs very well.

  2. Nice post. I was checking continuously this weblog and I’m inspired!

Very useful info specifically the closing section 🙂 I handle such information a lot.
I used to be seeking this particular information for a long time.
    Thanks and good luck.

can create finer and more delicate frames, due to its higher
tensile strength. There are various types of conservatory furniture made of teak and other types of
wood which are very trendy. The author of this article is closely associated with the organisation and is an experienced writer with expertise in writing

  4. Definitely believe that which you stated. Your favorite justification appeared to be on the
web the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you,
I certainly get irked while people consider worries that they plainly don’t know about.
You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined out the
whole thing without having side effect , people can take a signal.
Will probably be back to get more. Thanks

  5. ointments … but are you satisfied with the
temporary relief they give. He states that because an infant’s
skin is thinner than an adult’s and can take up to one year for it to thicken enough to efficiently
protect a baby from bacteria, they are much more susceptible to rashes and breakouts.
The importance of seafood for health can’t be overestimated.

Furthermore, this insufficient circulation could lead to thrombosis,

Keratosis pilaris could also occur almost

rid of the condition. Regular dental check-ups for example are
essential as is maintaining a good healthy balanced diet.
Eczema and rashes varieties often allergic reactions to metals, cosmetics, the sun, plants,
food and other substances cause. Blueberries are the weapon of choice to obliterate that issue.
Our body system is made up of a big proportion of water
for various uses. Our body requires rest each day to recover from all the stress
it has experienced throughout the day. Other types of rosacea, like Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea,
is far less troublesome and usually just causes either redness or
dryness. It is also important to practice good hygiene, to wear loose,
breathable clothing, and to avoid sharing personal items like clothing, towels, or even razors.

Despite all sorts of face creams that people use to look
beautiful and young, healthy food along with sports and healthy

  9. Unquestionably believe that that you said. Your favourite justification seemed to be on the net the simplest factor to be
aware of. I say too you, I definitely get irked while other folks think about concerns that they just do

  10. You can do this either, horizontally or vertically, to create a match and thus eliminate that row and earn your points.
Get into his shoes using Madden 11 cheats and
attack him when he least expects it. And wouldn’t helping you

  11. Hey there, I think your blog might be having browser compatibility issues.
When I look at your blog in Firefox, it looks fine
but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping.
I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other
    then that, fantastic blog!

  12. A motivating discussion is worth comment. I do believe that
you should write more on this subject, it might not be a taboo matter but generally people do not discuss such subjects.

To the next! All the best!!

  13. Hey there this is kinda of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors
or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m
starting a blog soon but have no coding knowledge so I
wanted to get guidance from someone with experience.
Any help would be enormously appreciated!

  14. I was suggested this web site by means of my cousin. I am
no longer positive whether or not this put up is written by him as nobody else understand such unique approximately my
    difficulty. You’re amazing! Thanks!

  15. This is the right website for everyone who really wants to understand this topic.
You understand so much its almost tough to argue with you
(not that I personally will need to…HaHa).
You definitely put a brand new spin on a subject that’s been written about for years.

    Wonderful stuff, just great!

  16. I seldom leave a response, however i did some searching and wound up here Georgias Burning!
    | Burners.Me: Me, Burners and The Man. And
I do have a couple of questions for you if you tend not to mind.
Is it just me or does it look like a few of these responses
appear like they are coming from brain dead visitors?
😛 And, if you are posting on additional sites, I would like
to keep up with everything fresh you have to post.

Would you list of all of all your communal sites like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?

  17. The thing I noticed the most is that the pictures had nothing to do with the content of the article. A more appropriate picture might have been the burn itself. But talking about financials and posting a picture of half naked girls just takes away from the content. If you really wanted the Shock and Awe of the photos the article should really have been about something other than the financials and how the burn is growing, etc.

  18. ‘Disappointing on a major level’. Although the publishing party here may feel differently. We Burners have a policy that this should never happen and is part of the general rules of any ‘Burn’ in general. Further more it is aside from being (illegal & offensive that some ones personal property be taken from them and published to any site as part of a article) Morally inept & intelligibly questionable it be done without there permission. No matter where you found it. I would advise the photographers wishes be respected and it be pulled asap. Although I will also add ‘great job on your original post’ (outside of the obvious ).

  19. The second photo of my naked camp mates was taken off of my personal blog without my permission as well. I was not asked before this photo was used and I was not informed afterwards either. Neither of the people in this photo consented to it being shared on this website and I, the photographer, was not asked permission or informed of it’s use. That is 100% not okay and extremely disappointing.

  20. That last photo was never meant to be shared with the world….. hahahaha someone got that off of my tumblr. Oh my. My original caption was something like “home, clean, and a little sleep-deprived.”

      • It’s NOT okay to repost people’s photos without their permission. It’s a violation of their copyright and it’s wrong. I realize that in this day and age nobody thinks twice about re-sharing a photo from Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, a blog… but just because “everybody’s doing it” doesn’t make it right, or legal.

In the future, please ask people before using their photos for your site. Especially photos involving nudity.

      • I’m confused, here. You posted this person’s picture without their permission. This person comes onto your blog stating that “that last photo was never meant to be shared with the world.” Your response is “You look great.”

There’s something very wrong with that.

A more appropriate response would have been “Would you like me to take this picture down, or may I keep it up?”

Obviously, though, the best thing to have done in the first place would have been to ask her permission BEFORE re-posting the picture. It makes me wonder if you got permission from the other people to post nude pictures of them on your blog. Given your response to Demeter, I’m guessing you didn’t.

Not only is that shitty to the people that may not want their nude selves on your blog, but it’s also in direct violation of the waiver you signed. There was a photo policy on that waiver. Did you read it? Either you didn’t, or you did and are just ignoring it.

      • Here’s what the law says: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use
“Fair use is a limitation and exception to the exclusive right granted by copyright law to the author of a creative work. In United States copyright law, fair use is a doctrine that permits limited use of copyrighted material without acquiring permission from the rights holders. Examples of fair use include commentary, search engines, criticism, news reporting, research, teaching, library archiving and scholarship”
If you want us to remove the photo we will. If you post naked photos of yourself on the Internet, they could turn up anywhere – think before you strip before you pose.

      • I am the photographer whom that nude belongs to and I was never asked or told about it being used. I would like it taken down. I feel very disrespected that a nude of two close friends that I posted on my own personal blog was used for something like this without my permission.

      • ” If you post naked photos of yourself on the Internet, they could turn up anywhere – think before you strip before you pose.” is incredibly offensive and quite frankly, a surprise coming from the burner community. Just because a close friend consented to being photographed by me does not mean that they consented to that photo being in this article. Ask before you use someone else’s photos. Nudity has nothing to do with it.

      • which photo do you want taken down Allie? The fire twirling? I can’t see any nude pictures in this story, I can see some nipples but in both cases the girls appear to be wearing something over them – it doesn’t seem offensive to me.

If you type “Georgia Alchemy” into Google Image search, both images come up freely on the Internet – nothing to do with our site. Neither one has any obvious information about who the photographer is or what copyright restrictions they have. One of the photos looks like it’s been up on the Internet for 5 years.

You might want to take them down from wherever you posted them, if you don’t want them seen by anybody. Or post them on Facebook and use their security settings to make sure they’re only available to your friends.
