Autoweek coverage of Burning Man Art Cars

Further signs that Burning Man is becoming more and more popular -Autoweek makes me think of the magazine rack at Wal-Mart. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! Burners everywhere, all the time.

Here’s a quick look at some art cars, although in my opinion there are many more news-worthy art cars.

BREAKING NEWS: Burning Man double-STEP, some lucky winners to get 2 tickets

They listened to us, and now if you registered for 2 tickets in the first lottery, you’re in line for another 2 for STEP.

we announced a policy of allowing people to purchase only one (1) non-transferable ticket per person through STEP.

However, after further consideration and much feedback from you, we’ve decided that this policy is unfair to people who originally registered for two tickets in the Main Sale, one for themselves and one for their significant other, family member, friend, or campmate.

it's always fun in the Will Call line

We hear you, and we’re listening. That’s why we’re adjusting this policy to allow people who originally registered for two tickets in the Main Sale to request a maximum of two tickets per person through STEP. (If our records show that you originally registered for only one ticket in the Main Sale, you can only request one ticket through STEP.) All tickets purchased through STEP are non-transferable, and will be held at Will Call only. These tickets should be for you (or you and an identified guest).

Of course, there are only as many tickets to distribute through STEP, as people donate to STEP. Which could be zero, if people Gift tickets to their friends or even strangers in the spirit of Burning Man, or sell them for $1000 each on the secondary market in the spirit of capitalism.

According to BMorg, if you won a $260 ticket and you return it to STEP, BMOrg sells that ticket again for $260. It sounds like the next 10,000 World’s Biggest Guest List tickets are all at $390. Working this all out seems extraordinarily complicated, but there are certainly some highly valuable prizes to be won in the STEP lottery. Whether it’s 1 $390 ticket across 70,000 people, or 10,000 $260 tickets to 63,000 people, remains to be seen. And how to keep scalpers out of STEP, also remains to be seen.

STEP winners will be announced at the end of February

If you are eligible to participate in STEP, you’ll be receiving an email at the end of February with information about how to sign up.

No word yet on who gets the chop first, if the permit size does not get increased by 10%. Will MOOPS in years past, put you in the algorithmic shit list for years to come? Will recycled STEP tickets be worth as much as $420 early birds, or Tier 1 Virgins, or hand-picked theme camp tickets, or low-income tickets – if BMOrg has to cull a few thousand somewhere? Are all Burning Man tickets the same, despite all these “tiers”?
