We’re completely in the middle of the maelstrom right now, punching out the odd blog post here and there whilst trying to get everything together for Burning Man. It’s beyond a full time job, for many major camps these next few weeks will see a lot of late nights put in by dozens of people.
At the same time, it’s fun, it’s exhilarating. And it just keeps getting better and better!
This weekend I enjoyed an awesome DJ battle from local California crew Brass Tax at Public Works. The last time I was there was earlier in the year for an amazing show from the Stanton Warriors, brought out here by Opel Productions. I mentioned to DJ Dingdong that my favorite DJ in the world was Deekline. He agreed that he’s a fantastic producer, and that he has to actively try not to put his tracks into his own sets – otherwise, half the tracks would be Deekline.
So you can imagine my joy and excitement to see new Kings of 10 o’clock Opulent Temple’s line up for this year. Deekline. Stanton Warriors. Melbourne boy Carl Cox. Christopher Lawrence. Crystal Method. Not to mention the creme-de-la-creme of local DJs like Dutch, Syd, Elite Force, the Scumfrog, Dex Stakker – the list goes on.
Deekline is performing with rapper K-Mack, who he did the recent Booty Breaks mixtape with (free download, check out the scratching!). Hopefully Flipside, DJ Assault, Yolanda, the Wizard, and all Deekline’s other homies will be part of the show too. The more live acts performing with DJs, the better.
The 0nly thing I could imagine to make this lineup better would be Cosmic Gate with Emma Hewitt – maybe next year? Or maybe they are surprise guests at another camp…
Opulent Temple has always been my favorite sound camp – consistently excellent. This year they’ll face some big competition from Root Society, who will announce their lineup of 100 DJs soon.
Thank you thank you thank you, Opulent Temple! Here we go:
This coming burn is our 10th annual camp at Burningman, marking a decade of efforts to create a space for sacred dance to world class music. What a ride! We give the gift to our community and to ourselves, and we work hard to bring forth a play space to touch the heart and see things clearly. The goal is not to party, though we all do it well. The goal is to connect and awaken, and to bring the fruits of that to our relationships to each other and the world all year round. It’s easy to be giddy and open hearted under the stars and the fire in the desert, surrounded by friends, freaks and some of the greatest dance music in the world. Less easy back in our daily lives, toiling in an unconscious world. And we know, especially given the luxuries, means and privilege we have, that we have a responsibility and a duty to bring the light. We like ours with a dash of bass, fire and groove.
Thank you all for your on going support of us and our events so that we can be here to do what we do. As we know you know, it’s a community effort, solely supported by you and us. Opulent Temple is stronger than ever and looking forward to new directions in the future. See you on the dance floor!

Coming from Montreal to burn my virgin ass on the playa along with a few gay+ friends, including G In The Box. If you have openings, he’d love to mix some Montreal sound for you. You can sample his goods here http://soundcloud.com/dj-g-obrien — with Jean-François Brien.
